💡 THE 87A REBATE TRAP
Unlike Resident Indians who pay zero tax on income up to ₹7 Lakhs, NRIs are not eligible for the Section 87A rebate. This means if your Indian income is ₹6 Lakhs, you will still have to pay tax based on the standard slab rates.
⚖️ NRE VS NRO ACCOUNTS
Interest earned on an NRE or FCNR account is completely tax-free in India. However, interest earned on an NRO account is fully taxable according to your income tax slab. STCG on equity is taxed at a flat rate of 20% (Budget 2024).
