💡 Hardscaping Authority Rules For Long-Lasting Paver Installations
Why Sub-Base Compaction is Mandatory
Over 90% of paver failures happen because of a weak sub-base. Crushed gravel must be spread in 2-inch layers (lifts) and dabi hui (compacted) with a plate compactor. A driveway requires a minimum 6-inch compacted sub-base to support tire load parameters.
Never Skimp on Edge Restraints
Pavers are interlocking blocks held by friction. Without rigid heavy plastic or concrete edge restraints along the perimeter, lateral shifting triggers, pushing the outside pavers to separate and slip out over time.
The Bedding Sand Layer vs Joint Sand
Bedding sand is a flat 1-inch uncompacted screech layer of sharp coarse sand used to set blocks. Do not use fine play sand. For locking joints post-installation, use specialized **Polymeric Sand** which hardens upon contact with moisture to lock out weed growth.
How Cutting Patterns Alter Material Waste
A simple running bond layout creates minimal cutting overheads at edges. However, complex patterns like a 45-Degree Herringbone or winding serpentine walkway curves require massive diagonal splitting cuts, raising the necessary wastage buffer to 14%.
